It turns out that destroying the American democratic republic was easy to accomplish, historians will write someday. Simply get the three major cable news networks to blather on about useless bull**** for a few days, while legislators meet in secret behind closed doors to rush through the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA), and its evil twin sister, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which is a clever name for an Internet censorship bill straight out of an Orwellian nightmare.
Sure, some independent media web sites and Jon Stewart warned us about this. Ron Paul & Son warned us about this. Amnesty International and the ACLU have been screaming from the rooftops, crying bloody murder. But the American people let it happen, because the vast majority of us simply didn’t find out in time.
And now President Obama’s advisers are saying he is withdrawing his veto threat against NDAA, so it will become law.
True story. I commend Rep. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., for voting against this. Her statement on the bill:
Although the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) contains important provisions for national defense, after careful review of the legislation, I believe that the language in the bill muddies the water concerning the due process rights granted to American citizens by the Constitution. Granting authority to indefinitely detain American citizens suspected of terrorism without charge and without sufficiently addressing what rights an American citizen has if they are suspected of terrorism and arrested on U.S. soil, sets a troubling precedent.
This bill is horrifying. For those who are saying, “Meh, big deal, we detain people already…” - yeah, we have, and that’s wrong. NDAA is much worse. It is authorizing detention of American citizens without due process if they’re suspected of terrorism, and that detention will occur on American soil. This is further encroaching our rights and turning the military against the American people.
NDAA is the PATRIOT Act on steroids.
And people who have the “Well if you’re not a terrorist you have nothing to fear” mindset are in for a quick surprise.
Anything can be justified as terroristic and thus anything can be used as reason for indefinate detetention. Protesting is classified as terrorist actions.

Rihanna - Red Lipstick I am LOVING how much dubstep has been being put into mainstream music lately and I love Rihanna. Her new cd is perfection and this is my favourite song off of it besides birthday cake, the song is originally by chase and status and its called saxon but add rihanna and nicki minaj? I die. I’m not sure this version of the song with nicki is legit but its so good who cares?

This Is Important, You Should Know About It of the Day: The despicable Internet Blacklist Bill — known as the “PROTECT IP Act” or S. 968 in the Senate and the “Stop Online Piracy Act” or H.R. 3261 in the House — has been discussed on TDW in the past, but crunch-time is upon us as Congress officially began holding hearings today on the most harmful Internet censorship legislation of our time.
An informative video on the bill’s many ills has been posted above, but, in brief, the legislation, if passed, would essentially hand the Internet over to corporations, allowing them to sue and shut down any website that so much as hosts a link to copyrighted material.
Internet Service Providers could be forced to block social media sites, search engines could be required to delete results, and startups could lose their funding — all on the whim of the copyright holder.
Perhaps most distressing of all, however, is the fact that this bill, in true Orwellian fashion, does nothing to prevent actual piracy. The only thing it will succeed in doing is turning the Internet into a dystopic plutocracy where people are no longer free to share ideas and be creative for fear of running afoul of Big Business.
Despite what some would have you believe, the hearings are offensively lopsided, with pro-SOPA voices far outweighing those opposed. A slew of tech companies including Google, Yahoo!, Mozilla, Twitter, and AOL, have undersigned a full-page ad in today’s New York Times opposing SOPA, but it’s doubtful their voices will be heard by those who need to hear it.
That means it’s up to you to get this terrifying, jobs-killing, Internet-breaking bill off the table for good. Here are a few things you can do:
— Reach out to your representatives in congress. Despite what they might think, they work for you. Remind them of that by e-mailing them this form letter (good), or look them up and write them a personal, heartfelt letter (even better).
— Sign this petition, and also this one.
— Share this post and/or the video above.
— Get the word out any way you can, because, soon, you may no longer be allowed to.
